How to install WordPress via Softaculous in cPanel

WordPress is available on every cPanel hosting account at The Email Shop through the Softaculous Apps Installer. The whole process takes about five minutes and nothing needs uploading by hand.

1. Open Softaculous in cPanel

  • Sign in to your cPanel account. You can open it from the client area under Services, or at https://yourdomain.com/cpanel.
  • Scroll to the Software section and click Softaculous Apps Installer.
  • Under Blogs (or using the search box at the top) click WordPress, then click Install Now.

2. Software setup

  • Choose Installation URL: pick https:// once your domain points at your hosting; the free SSL certificate is issued automatically. If the certificate is not there yet, choose http:// and switch the address to https later under Settings → General in WordPress.
  • Choose Domain: select the domain or subdomain the site should live on.
  • In Directory: leave this blank to install at the root of the domain (example.com). Only enter a name if you want the site in a sub-folder (example.com/blog).

3. Site settings

  • Site Name and Site Description: both can be changed later from WordPress → Settings.
  • Enable Multisite (WPMU): leave this unticked unless you know you need a network of sites.

4. Admin account

  • Admin Username: choose something other than "admin" — it is the first name attackers try.
  • Admin Password: use a long, unique password. The key icon next to the field generates one for you.
  • Admin Email: an address you check, because password resets are sent there.

Note: keep the admin username and password somewhere safe. You will need them to sign in at example.com/wp-admin.

5. Language, plugins and advanced options

  • Select Language: the language of the WordPress admin area; English is the default.
  • Select Plugins: optional. Limit Login Attempts is a sensible choice; everything else can be added later from inside WordPress.
  • Advanced Options: leave the database name and the automatic-upgrade settings as they are. Automated backups are useful, but every copy uses your disk quota, so keep the number of rotations small.
  • Select Theme: optional. Leave it blank and WordPress installs its default theme, which you can change at any time.

6. Install

  • Scroll to the bottom and click Install. Softaculous shows a progress bar and then the two addresses you need: your site (example.com) and your admin area (example.com/wp-admin).
  • Sign in to the admin area, open Settings → Permalinks and choose "Post name" for clean URLs, then set your timezone under Settings → General.

Managing the installation later

  • Softaculous lists every installation under All Installations (the box icon at the top right). From there you can back up, clone, upgrade or remove WordPress.
  • Keep WordPress, your theme and your plugins updated. Softaculous can do this for you if you enabled automatic upgrades under Advanced Options.
  • If anything goes wrong, open a support ticket from the client area and tell us the domain — we can see the installation from our side.
