Colocation questions
Colocation is renting space for your own IT equipment inside a third-party provider's data centre. You own and supply the servers; we provide the rack space, power, cooling, bandwidth, physical security and network connectivity. It gives you the benefits of a data centre without building one.
The facility provides cooling, electrical power and broadband, plus physical security and floor space. You supply your servers. Space is rented by the rack unit, cabinet, cage or private room, and we provide the power, IP addresses and uplink ports needed to connect your equipment to the network. Maintenance and safety of the facility, including power and cooling redundancy, are our responsibility.
Small businesses benefit most. Building a data centre is both time-intensive and capital-demanding, and new technology can make it obsolete within a few years. Colocation avoids the technical, financial and staffing obstacles of running your own facility while keeping full ownership of your hardware.
